William Summers, MD

 

William "Bill" Summers got his medical degree from University of Alabama - Birmingham (UAB) in 1999.

He did his residency in Internal Medicine at Baptist Health Systems in Birmingham, Ala.

He completed a nearly three-year fellowship in Infectious Disease at UAB in 2005.

Dr. Summers interest in HIV is what propelled him to become a doctor and to study at UAB, a premier research and treatment facility.

Throughout his residency, he participated in a HIV clinic at UAB's Veterans Hospital.

Throughout fellowship, he spent another three years working in a UAB HIV clinic which specialized in treatment for pregnant women.

During his fellowship he also volunteered at a free medicine clinic.

Dr. Summers was awarded Baptist Health System's Excellence in Teaching Award each year during his residency. This award is voted on by interns and fellow residents in the Internal Medicine program.

Upon finishing his Infectious Disease fellowship, he worked for a private Infectious Disease practice in Memphis Tennessee., covering three different hospitals and an HIV/ General Infectious Disease clinic.

He welcomes the opportunity to come to St Louis as his wife Amy's family resides here. The Summers have three children: 8-year-old twin boys and a 2-year-old daughter.
